Why Fishers of Men?
Share
The 99 has always been about the one.
It comes from the parable Jesus tells in the Gospel of Luke 15 - the shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to go after the one that was lost. It reveals the heart of God: not distant, not passive, but pursuing. He sees the one. He values the one. He goes after the one.
That has always been the foundation of this company.
But the more I sat with that, the more I realized something: it is not enough to simply admire that kind of love. It is not enough to build something around the idea of pursuit if we are unwilling to be moved by it ourselves.
Because the story was never meant to stop at awareness.
In the Gospel of Matthew 4:19, Jesus says, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Not just believe in Me.
Follow Me.
That call changes everything. Because following Jesus is not passive. It pulls us out of comfort and into purpose. It teaches us to care about what He cares about, to see people the way He sees them, and to step into the work He is already doing.
That’s where this collection was born.
Because if The 99 is rooted in the truth that God pursues the one, then the question becomes: are we willing to follow Him into that pursuit?
Not as the Savior - but with Him.
A shepherd and a fisher carry the same heart, but they reveal different parts of the mission. A shepherd tends, protects, and cares for those already near. A fisher goes out, reaches, and brings in.
Both matter.
But this collection is about the going.
It is about stepping out from comfort. It is about refusing to drift downstream with the world. It is about living with intention, obedience, and courage in a culture that often rewards comfort and self-focus.
Because the call of Jesus still stands:
Follow Me...
The 99 exists because the one matters.
This collection exists to remind us we’re called to go.
Not just to believe.
Not just to admire.
But to follow Him—
and become Fishers of Men.
